Job Summary:
The Compression Operator is responsible for operating and supporting the tablet compression process in the manufacture of oral solid dosage forms in strict adherence to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and approved Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs). The role involves operating rotary tablet press machines, monitoring tablet quality parameters such as weight, thickness and hardness, performing basic in-process checks and ensuring proper equipment cleaning and documentation. The operator will also assist in machine setup and changeover, report abnormalities promptly and maintain a clean and compliant working environment. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with compression equipment, a solid understanding of tablet production requirements and a strong commitment to product quality and safety.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate compression machines under the supervision of production officers and in accordance with BMRs and SOPs.
- Set up, load and monitor compression equipment during tablet manufacturing.
- Perform basic in-process checks such as tablet weight and appearance and record observations in process documents.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned, sanitized and maintained according to cleaning procedures before and after use.
- Perform machine changeovers, lubrication and setup for different product batches.
- Identify equipment issues and promptly report abnormalities to the production supervisor or maintenance team.
- Follow safety, hygiene and gowning procedures while operating in classified production areas.
- Accurately complete batch records, logbooks and equipment use logs in compliance with GMP standards.
- Ensure proper handling of compression tools such as punches and dies to avoid damage or contamination.
- Participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
Academic Qualifications:
Minimum of Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE). A certificate or diploma in Industrial Technology, Packaging, or a related technical field is an added advantage.
Experience and Competencies:
- Minimum of 4–5 years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical tablet compression or oral solid dosage manufacturing.
- Strong technical understanding of tablet compression machinery, tooling and product parameters.
- Familiarity with cGMP, equipment cleaning validation and documentation requirements.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, BMRs and operate within regulated production environments.
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Experience in working within cross-functional production and quality teams.
