Job Summary:
The Secondary Packing Operator is responsible for carrying out secondary packaging activities such as cartoning, labeling, overwrapping and boxing of finished pharmaceutical products in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The role involves operating semi-automatic or manual secondary packing equipment, verifying printed materials and codes, assembling packaging components, and ensuring proper documentation of packing activities. The operator is also expected to conduct visual inspections, support changeovers between batches and maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the packing area. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in secondary packaging operations, a good understanding of product traceability and labeling requirements and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, quality-controlled environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform secondary packing activities including cartoning, labeling, overwrapping and boxing of finished products.
- Operate semi-automatic or manual secondary packaging machines in accordance with SOPs and batch packaging records (BPRs).
- Ensure correct assembly and packaging of finished goods as per product specifications and visual standards.
- Verify printed codes, labels and packaging components for accuracy and compliance.
- Handle packaging materials and components to minimize damage and contamination.
- Conduct routine visual inspection of secondary packaging units for completeness, defects, and quality.
- Maintain accurate documentation of packing quantities, shift production reports, and cleaning records.
- Assist with line clearance, cleaning, and changeover for new product batches.
- Adhere to cGMP, personal hygiene, and workplace safety procedures during all operations.
- Collaborate with quality and production teams to ensure packaging integrity and readiness for shipment.
Academic Qualifications:
Minimum of Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE). A certificate or diploma in Industrial Technology, Packaging, or a related technical field is an added advantage.
Experience and Competencies:
- Minimum of 4–5 years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical secondary packing of oral solid dosage manufacturing.
- Strong technical understanding of tablet compression machinery, tooling and product parameters.
- Familiarity with cGMP, equipment cleaning validation and documentation requirements.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, BMRs and operate within regulated production environments.
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in working within cross-functional production and quality teams.
